Calculating the Height of a Room

Question

If l is 18ft, w is 14ft and a is 512 squared, what is the height of the room?

Answer

That depends on which wall a is based on.

If a is based on the length of the room multiplied by the height, then the height is calculated this way:

a = l x h
512 = 18 x h
h = 512 / 18
h = 28 4/9 feet

If a is based on the width of the room multiplied by the height, then the height is calculated this way:

a = w x h
512 = 14 x h
h = 512 / 14
h = 36 4/7 feet
