A 4 inch wide by 6 inch long photo is enlarged 25%. What is the area?

Answer
STEP 1:    From the given information, we understand that the photo is in the shape of a rectangle having dimensions 4 inch by 6 inch.

It is given that the photo is enlarged by 25%. This means that the dimensions increase by 25%.

calculate new length and width


STEP 2:    Now the measures of the length and width of the enlarged photo are known, we can find its area. Make use of the formula of a rectangle, A = lw.

In the formula, l stands for the length and w stands for the width.

Substitute for the two variables.

calculate the new area A
The area of the photo after enlargement is 37.5 square inches.
