Your explanation couldn't be any easier than this.
I've had teachers and tutors explain this to me. This was the easiest explanation that I can remember.

slope intercept form

OR you can describe it as Y=MX+B as B=base [where the equation starts] M=motion [how the problem moves]. for example y=1/2x+6; you would have to start at positive 6 and go 1 up 2 over...
